Charming boutique hotel with hardwood details, contemporary finishing, and balconies overlooking the Dolomites. Rich breakfast included with local specialties.
The charm of an original medieval castle on a rolling hill, with recently restored deluxe rooms. Outdoor heated pool and cozy common lounges.
Deluxe rooms in Trieste's iconic 5-star, recently restored, and wrapped in timeless elegance. Superb breakfast at Harry's, facing Piazza Unità, and spa included.
The trip itinerary was by itself wonderful—the landscape, the hotels, medieval towns, wineries, olive and pistachio farms, museums and churches. At no time did we feel stressed or rushed. Staying at each hotel for 2 or 3 nights helped. The pace suited us to a tee. Clarissa, our tour director, is a treasure—caring, knowledgeable, warm, funny, flexible and now a “family member”. She “got us”. One day I wasn’t well and she adjusted the schedule so that I would not miss seeing the planned sites. She gave us options and steered us to those things she knew we would enjoy-always. This was by far the best trip my husband and I have ever taken. As a result of our overwhelmingly positive experience we are signing up for next year’s Puglia trip. See you then.

Great guided tour of western Sicily! Top notch hotels, great restaurants and an itinerary that includes the major cultural and historic sites but also off the beaten path treats. Highly recommended Meet Piemonte’s Western Sicily tour!

Traveling with Meet Piemonte has been just amazing. From the moment we met our driver at the airport, all travel worries and stressors were left behind. Marco is incredibly detail oriented, always professional with an added touch of humor, informed and informative. We visited and experienced the hidden gems of Sicily, dined like locals and also like royalty, enjoyed fine wine daily. I cannot imagine traveling in Italy any other way !

Our captivating Dolomites & Friuli Small Group Tour today focuses on the western side of the region along the Tagliamento River. This journey celebrates the art of slow travel and reveals some of Italy's best-kept secrets.
Our adventure begins in the medieval town of Spilimbergo, home to the world's most prestigious mosaic school. Here, you will discover how its talented graduates have created breathtaking works for iconic places such as the Paris Opéra Garnier, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and the Ground Zero subway station in New York City.
Learning about the use of the martellina (traditional hammer) to hand-cut stones, you'll gain insights into the craft's evolution—from replicas of Roman works to cutting-edge contemporary designs. This experience promises to be much more than history; it will awaken your senses and leave you inspired.
Next, we'll take a short drive to the quaint town of San Daniele, renowned for Italy's most tender and sweet prosciutto. You'll visit an artisanal producer that cures hams by the gentle breeze of the Tagliamento River valley. Enjoy a delightful lunch at their restaurant (vegetarian options available).
After some time relaxing at the hotel, we'll head to Udine in the late afternoon. As Friuli's second-largest city, Udine offers a unique blend of Venetian charm and vibrant life, thanks to its youthful university population. We stroll through picturesque piazzas, enjoy some free time to wander through independent shops nestled between stunning Venetian-influenced architecture.
Our knowledgeable tour manager will guide you to charming osterias for sampling wines and Venetian tapas, as locals do, as well as traditional restaurants for dinner at your leisure.
After a delightful evening, we'll return to the hotel, leaving you with unforgettable memories of this remarkable journey.

Accommodation: Trieste
Prepare yourself for a profound journey as we head east toward the Slovenian border, where the rolling Collio hills cradle the storied village of Oslavia.
This landscape carries a heavy silence; once the front line of the Great War, Oslavia was entirely leveled by shelling, leaving only a landscape of craters and memories. Today, that very soil—a unique, flaky marl known as ponca—has been reclaimed by visionary winemakers who have turned tragedy into a liquid masterpiece.
We will visit an intimate, family-owned estate to uncover the secrets of their world-renowned "Orange Wines." Here, the local Ribolla Gialla grape is treated with ancient reverence; rather than being pressed immediately, the skins are left to macerate for weeks or even months.
This patient process yields a wine of astonishing amber hue, and complex flavor. As you swirl your glass, you’ll hear the family’s narrative of survival and their radical dedication to natural, skin-contact viticulture. It is a toast to the "vignaioli" who refused to let their heritage be buried by history.
After a meaningful surprise stop that bridges the past and present, we continue our adventure to the cosmopolitan Trieste. Luxury awaits at our historic Grand Hotel, positioned perfectly to capture the city’s imperial elegance.
Before dinner on your own, join our tour manager for an orientation around the city and a photo in Piazza Unità d’Italia, Europe’s largest sea-facing square. As it transforms under the glow of its nightly illumination, with the neoclassical palaces reflecting off the dark Adriatic waters. It is the perfect, captivating end to a day of deep discovery.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch
Accommodation: Trieste
After a sumptuous breakfast served at the famous Harry's, overlooking Piazza Unità d'Italia, our local expert meets us at our hotel for an exploration on foot of Trieste.
As the former main seaport of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, its streets are lined with neoclassical palaces that whisper of a golden imperial age, although Trieste always maintained its cultural independence.
The incredible clash of Greek, Jewish, Germanic, and Slavic influences that met in the city during the golden age left a treasure trove of hidden gems that our local guide will bring to life.
We visit the Great Synagogue, one of the largest in Europe, boasting Romanesque-Middle Eastern design, and dive into the city's legendary coffee culture. In historic "literary cafés" once frequented by James Joyce, we'll learn the art of the master roasters famous for their "secret recipes" that balance the strengths of different beans. A guided tasting in one of the city’s iconic cafè awaits before lunchtime.
Today, lunch and dinner are on your own, among a wide array of local "buffet" options, where traditionally only mixed boiled meats are served, as well as restaurants of all levels.
For your free afternoon, you can book the hotel's spa (not included), get lost in Trieste's shopping streets, or follow our tour manager to the upper Castel San Giusto for views over the city and the harbor from a higher perspective.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Trieste
On the last day of exploring the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, we leave Trieste's city center and drive to the surrounding hills, known as the Karst Plateau. Here, a limestone landscape has been modeled by subterranean rivers that carved out cathedral-like caves, and where the fierce Bora wind yields the rugged, stone-walled vineyards of the Vitovska grape.
We visit a small wine producer for a tour of their underground cellar and wine tasting paired with a selection of salami, cheese, and other local products.
In the early afternoon, we descend toward the sea, and visit the iconic Miramare Castle. This shimmering white Istrian stone marvel is perched precariously over the turquoise Adriatic, surrounded by lush botanical gardens that offer the ultimate panoramic view of the gulf. We learn about the history and the love story within the castle's walls before returning to Trieste.
It’s time to raise one more glass, this time to celebrate the end of the Dolomites & Friuli Small Group Tour, in a local restaurant, steps away from our hotel.

After breakfast, check out and say goodbye to northeast Italy.
Please refer to the paragraph “Flights and Airport transfer” for more details about transferring to Trieste or Venice airport.
Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the tour cost.
Suggested arrival airport: Venice (VCE).
Suggested departure airport: Trieste (TRS) or Venice (VCE).
Day 1: meet in the arrival hall of Venice Airport at 1:00 PM. Specific directions will be provided. We strongly recommend that you arrive in Venice a day before.
On departure day, guests can choose between two airports: Trieste (about 40 minutes from the last hotel on the tour) or Venice (about 1 hour and 45 minutes away). We will arrange one transfer per airport based on everyone’s flight schedule. Additional private transfers to Venice Airport can be arranged for an extra charge
In addition to airline luggage restrictions, please consider that:
Due to our van/bus space limitations during the tour, we ask you to limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person, weighing around 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).
Each guest can also bring one carry-on and a small, soft-sided bag or backpack for day-to-day travel. The space onboard our vans and minibusses, as well as the overhead rack and the space under the seat, is typically very limited, just enough for small bags and purses.
PASSPORT AND TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
It is your responsibility to obtain the necessary documents for traveling to Italy, depending on your country of residence.
If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally, you will need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the end of your tour to enter Italy. Currently, no vaccinations are required, but it is your responsibility to stay informed about any changes to this requirement.
For citizens of other non-European countries traveling internationally, it is advisable to contact an embassy or consulate of Italy to determine the required travel documentation.
MOBILITY AND HEALTH
To enjoy our Dolomites & Friuli Tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances. This is not a physically demanding tour, however, there will be a lot of walking, often on uneven steps, cobblestones, uphill and downhill. One of the charming aspects of Italy is its historical and architectural conformation. Many towns and attractions can only be visited on foot, as vans and buses cannot access the pedestrian areas where most places of interest are located.
While the driving time on our tours is limited, getting to remote farmhouses and villages may require driving on windy roads that may cause motion sickness.
WHEELCHAIRS
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Our tour managers and tour guides are unable to provide ongoing individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other physical needs.
HOTELS, WI-FI, AIR CONDITIONING
Due to the historic nature of many luxury boutique hotels we stay in, some rooms may have stairs and can vary in size and layout. Additionally, air conditioning in Italy, as well as the Wi-Fi connection, may not be as reliable as it is in the United States.
GRATUITIES and OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
Gratuities for hotel staff and waiters are included in the tour price. Guests may choose to leave a tip for drivers and guides as a token of appreciation for their services. Suggested tipping amounts will be communicated approximately a month before departure via email, along with a list of important information about Italy, including what to pack, how to manage money withdrawals, electricity usage, VAT refunds, and more.
